Photography Prank
In moviemaking, there is a great prank often played on the newbie on the production crew. More often than not, this is the Production Assistant, fresh out of school, who knows next to nothing about filmmaking. The camera crew calls the PA in with an URGENT errand. “Quick, drive to the rental house to get us a large-sized bag of F/STOPS, and hurry!” The PA runs desperately to the rental house and demands a bag of f/stops, at which point the staff bursts out laughing. (Of course, f/stops are a setting on a lens, and certainly nothing you can put in a bag. There inlies the comedy, you see). It’s a great prank for knocking a cocky PA down a couple of pegs. So, if someone asks you to get a bag of f/stops, tell them it’s right next to the box of spinners (swizzle sticks!).

[...] Stephanie over at i speak film wrote about a funny prank played on people who aren’t familiar with photography terminology. This makes me wish I had a noob assistant. [...]

That’s just like sending the n00b guy out to the props department to get a long stand. As long as the guy at props knows the joke he can keep the n00b waiting for ages (i.e. standing for a long time) as he tries to find the “long stand”.
